We would all love a good vacation, but often the thought of prohibitive air travel costs can put us off. There is however a way you can get yourself some cheap flights. The key is trying to shop for the best deal out there. It can take a while, but is not impossible. The time and effort you invest will definitely leave you feeling richer for the holiday.
There are a few tricks that can help you. For starters, try and plan your trip well in advance. This way you can buy your tickets earlier ensuring cheaper prices. You should know that airlines hike their prices, almost a month before the date of departure, then again at a fortnight away, then a week and finally the rates are highest three days from the date of leaving. This works well for local travel. For those going international, a couple of months earlier will help. Buying your tickets late is also an option. Sometimes, if a flight is not completely booked, airlines sell the tickets at a discount. You should sign up for all the major airline newsletters that are updated soon enough of such offers. The flip side is the constant worry of not having tickets done till the last minute.
Check with all travel aggregators on the offers and prices they have. You can then easily shortlist what you like. There are several search engines that will give you the right time to purchase tickets. Also remember that new launches are done on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This means that what you bought on a Monday could sell for a lot cheaper.
If you live close to the airport, it would be a good idea to check on the prices in person. Sometimes, you do get a much better deal, moreso Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are also several budget airlines that are economy versions of the bigger and better known airlines. If you are a frequent traveler, cashing in your frequent flier miles would also an economical way of getting tickets.
