With the passage of time the number of women traveling alone, either for the purpose of business or vacations has increased by a huge proportion. Accommodating the needs of recent times there are now Tour Agencies, Travel Guides as well as Travel Websites that, if not devoted entirely to the unaccompanied woman traveler, at least offer special programs or packages and deals as well as information, tips and ideas intended for such single women travels.
If being a woman you’re going on your own, here are some commonsensical things to remember in order to make sure that you travel safe and sound:
1.You should research your destination as well as safety thereof. Plus make hotel reservations for your accommodation in advance in order to safe yourself from taking any decision in alacrity that might result in unsafe circumstances. Make sure that the hotel you have chosen for your stay has a good neighborhood.
2. Make sure that your travel documents are complete and are in proper order, before your departure. Don’t forget to keep extra copies handy. Optionally, you can also store copies of your documents in your e-mail account or a flash drive so that you can access them from anywhere in the time of need.
3. Always keep it in mind the fact that as you are traveling alone so you have to carry your luggage by your self without any helping hand therefore, pack light.
4. Avoid public display of mobile phone and try to use it just in time of use. Keep your cell phone, money, credit cards and other valuable items in a secure and hidden waist-pouch.
5. Remember you’re going on a visit away form your home town and not on a make-over mission therefore always dress conventionally and conservatively because this is requirement of certain cultures, despite of your personal liking or disliking just be mindful of local customs. So as they say, while you are in Rome, do as the Romans Do! This will surely prevent you from unnecessary attention as well as harassment.
6. Make sure you wear sensible and comfortable shoes. Not just for running away from the prison of Robin Hood but also because it will not let you feet tired soon if you’re going to be doing a lot of walk.
7. For a safety precaution, do carry a whistle with you. It’s great for drawing attention to yourself if such situation occurs for which you want a hero to safe you from a bad person harassing you.
8.  Besides informing regularly about your whereabouts at least to a single friend or relative, always carry a mobile phone with you and keep a number of a person (specific person to be contacted if you are in trouble) with the name of ICE (incase of emergency) and the numbers of local police-stations, hospitals, railway and bus services, your embassy, in the phone book of your mobile.
9. Even if you consider your self a Super Woman, don’t dare to travel alone at night because there is NO point in being needlessly brave.
10. Always try and sit next to a woman while traveling through a public transport. Avoid talking unnecessarily to strangers and if it’s important to talk for instance asking about directions, prefer ask a woman or a man with children.
Take a deep breath now along with a glass of water and relax. Don’t become so suspicious anyways. Although it is always a good idea to remain watchful but don’t think negative every time and consider the either sides of the picture. As you will travel you will get to know that the World is far better place than it’s imagined with a plenty of good folks around you.
